About KOINONIA

Transforming Agriculture in Namibia

KOINONIA Foundation is dedicated to transforming the agricultural landscape of Namibia through cutting-edge soilless farming technologies. We integrate Hydroponics and Aeroponics into agriculture as part of the broader AgriTech Revolution, enabling sustainable food production in drought-prone regions.

Our initiative empowers smallholder farmers in northern Namibia, particularly in Okongo and Ohangwena Region. By equipping youth and women with advanced farming techniques and knowledge, we help them overcome traditional farming challenges and thrive in an increasingly complex agricultural landscape.

Our Mission

To revolutionize food production and education in Namibia's drought-prone northern regions through self-sustaining, solar-powered soilless agriculture that empowers youth and women.

Vision background

Our Vision

A thriving, resilient Namibian society where communities are fed, skilled, and sustainably empowered regardless of geography or climate.

Impact Goals by 2031

Train 500 youth farmers, deploy 30 aeroponic towers, create 100 sustainable jobs, and reduce water use by 90% while increasing crop yields.

Namibia landscape

Background: Why It Matters

A Land in Crisis Demands Innovation

Our project site lies north of Namibia's veterinary Red Line, which restricts livestock and goods from entering formal markets in the south. This entrenched barrier, compounded by logistical isolation, collapsing rain-fed systems, and rising input costs, leaves many farmers locked out of viable value chains.

Extreme Water Scarcity

70% of Namibia is arid land with increasing droughts making traditional farming unsustainable and threatening food security.

Food Import Dependency

Namibia imports 60% of its fresh produce, driving up costs and leaving communities vulnerable to market fluctuations.

Youth & Women Exclusion

Traditional farming is no longer viable, yet alternative agricultural solutions remain out of reach for many youth and women.

Our Team

Governance & Leadership

KOINONIA Foundation is guided by a dedicated team of advisors and experts committed to transparent financial tracking, board reporting, and community accountability.

What We Do

The KOINONIA Soilless Farm Hub

Soilless Agriculture

Grow high-yield crops using hydroponics and aeroponics with 90-95% less water than traditional farming methods.

Training & Education

Train 500+ youth and women in sustainable agriculture over 3 years, hosting school visits and educational tours.

Circular Farming Model

Produce Azolla and hydroponic fodder to reduce animal feed imports while experimenting with vertical farming for staples.

Sustainable Operations

Operate on solar power with biogas and greywater recycling, employing and housing 20 full-time local workers.
